This qualification builds and recognises skills surrounding the customer along with working with others to ensure daily operations requirements are met. Graduates will get recognition of their sales skills and full understanding of the retail industry to support future career growth.

Australian Qualifications Framework

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.

The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline sales assistant, customer service representative, shop assistant, retail supervisor, team leader and senior sales assistant.

This qualification is available through Opportune Professional Development (RTO ID: 60072) in all Australian states via either a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) approach, traditional study or as part of a traineeship. Please choose your preferred option below.

  2. Watch you work a shift and discuss your experience
  3. Provide samples of your work
  4. Have your Supervisor sign-off on your skills and knowledge
  5. Learning (if you need it)
  6. You are qualified!

No government funding is available for RPL in this qualification.

If you have a ‘Statement of Attainment’ (or transcript) for a subject in this qualification you do not need to complete it again. Provide this to us when you enrol and if we assess it as being relevant we will credit the subject.

Our Skills Coaches are qualified and experienced Retail practitioners and hold a Training and Assessment certification. Your Skills Coach will hold the qualification you are studying (and most likely higher industry qualifications as well) and have extensive and up to date industry knowledge. This means that you are talking to someone who understands what it is like to be in a practical day to day role like yours. You will be introduced to your Skills Coach when you enrol in the program.

If you have gaps in your knowledge or practical experience, your Skills Coach will provide you with additional training or work-based activities to undertake. This may involve completing self-paced learning, work experience combined with one on one or group coaching sessions with your Skills Coach.

If you are unable to supply work samples, we provide you with opportunities to replace workplace samples with tasks or activities you can compete in your workplace to demonstrate your knowledge and skills.

Study Based Qualification

Study Based Qualification

Our Study Based Qualification option is suitable for students who have no prior experience and are not employed in a traineeship.

Work Based Qualification

Our Work Based Qualification option is designed for students completing their qualification in a formal traineeship agreement with their employer.

12-24 months

Cost: $3,000

This tuition fee is reduced to $600 for eligible trainees in Tasmania.
In all states A $1250 rebate and other incentives may be available for employers. Eligibility criteria applies.

  1. Review your current job role to match your qualification
  2. Decide if you can receive any Recognition of Prior Learning
  3. Complete learning through training sessions in your workplace, self-paced and on the job learning
  4. Practice your skills on the job
  5. Complete assessment activities and have your Skills Coach observe you at work to confirm your skills and knowledge
  6. Have your Supervisor sign-off on your skills and knowledge
  7. You are qualified!

The training fee is reduced to $600 if students meet the eligibility criteria. Under the Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund (User Choice) funding the Tasmanian government contributes the cost of training. Where the student requires the student enrolling:

  1. Is a part-time or fulltime employee
  2. Is working in a retail role
  3. Is an Australian Resident or citizen and resident in Tasmania
  4. Has not previously completed the same or similar qualification in the past 5 years
  5. must enrol as a trainee and therefore a signatory to an active and registered training contract approved by the Tasmanian Traineeships and Apprenticeships Committee.

A $4,000 rebate is available for employers of full-time trainees ($1,500 for part-time) in all States and Territories. Eligibility criteria applies.

Traineeships are roles offered by employers who agree to offer training as part of the employment contract.
