This qualification is an essential companion of Retail Managers around Australia. The Certificate IV in Retail Management (SIR40316) provides recognition of learnt skills to lead a frontline team to deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining an eye on business objectives. It also provides opportunities to expand your career by understanding retail environments other than your own.

Australian Qualifications Framework

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who lead a frontline team and manage day-to-day operations of a retail store or department to implement and deliver on organisational objectives and standards. These individuals possess a range of highly developed selling and customer engagement skills with sound knowledge of product and service offerings. They work with independence, taking responsibility for their own functions and outputs.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including speciality retailers, supermarkets, department stores, and quick service restaurants.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as store manager, department manager and assistant store manager.

  5. Learning (only if you need it)
  6. You are qualified!

If you have a ‘Statement of Attainment’ (or transcript) for a subject in this qualification you do not need to complete it again. Provide this to us when you enrol and if we assess it as being relevant we will credit the subject.

If a student is eligible, the Queensland government pay Opportune to deliver this course for the student with the employer making a co-contribution.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The student must be an Australian & QLD Resident.
  • The student cannot have previously obtained a Certificate III qualification or higher.
  • The student can not be currently studying.

Our Skills Coaches are qualified and experienced Leadership practitioners and hold a Training and Assessment certification. Your Skills Coach will hold the qualification you are studying (and most likely higher industry qualifications as well) and have extensive and up to date industry knowledge. This means that you are talking to someone who understands what it is like to be in a practical day to day role like yours. You will be introduced to your Skills Coach when you register for the program.

If you have gaps in your knowledge or practical experience, your Skills Coach will provide you with additional training or work-based activities to undertake. This may involve completing an online learning module, case study or workplace project.

Our Study Based Qualification option is suitable for students who have no prior experience and are not employed in a traineeship.

Work Based Qualification

Our Work Based Qualification option is designed for students who have a formal traineeship agreement with their employer.

Cost: $3,500

This tuition fee is reduced to $400 for trainees in Tasmania. For all other states, a $4,000 rebate is available for employers of full-time trainees ($1,500 for part-time).

Eligibility criteria. The student must:

  • Be on a traineeship contract with their employer.
  • Enrol in the course within 3 months of starting their traineeship (12 months if part-time).
  • Be resident of the state they are accessing the funding from.

Traineeships are roles offered by employers who agree to offer training as part of the employment contract.
